Installing Garden Tap?

I want to install an outside tap, but before buying a kit I thought that I should check the plumbing under my kitchen sink to see where the best place would be to take the water supply from.

I noticed that on the cold supply there is already a "Drain C0ck" with a hose connector, so my question is, instead of cutting the pipe, is it okay to just run the supply from the Drain C0ck via a hose to the outside tap? this seems the simple option but not unsure is it is the right one.

Thanks!
Thanks for you answers so far. So you can visualise the siituation, the Drain C0ck is located on the cold water mains pipe just after the water meter. If I was to run the water directly from the Drain C0ck, I would use a hose clamp just to make sure that the hose did not come free and flood the kitchen. Oh, I don’t have a basement.

Thanks!
Here is a photo of my plumbing.

  1. I WOULDNT!
AFTER ALL ITS NOT THERE FOR SHOW IS IT?

  2. Sure, the drain cock makes it so easy. Lucky you. You may want to close the drain cock when the garden tap is not being used just in case or a leak or burst hose. Good luck.

  3. I would find a place in the basement where the pipes go up to the sink and cut the pipe and add the proper connection.I’m having trouble visualizing your situation but you could try your solution and see what happens.

  4. I would not, using a garden hose in your crawl space does not meet code. The drain cock was probably installed there to allow for draining your water pipes.

  5. First, that is the cleanest under the kitchen sink I have ever seen. I would not personally tap the drain cock to supply an exterior sill cock. I would go the extra effort to have a solid pipe installed. If you choose to run a hose from under the sink then consider that you will have a hose under constant pressure under your kitchen sink. It may work just fine for years but if it ruptures it will flood the kitchen in a matter of minutes. I think you would be more satisfied with a proper installation.

  6. Run a proper pipe installation. I have learned from hard experience on half measure work. It’s not worth it in the long run.

  7. Congrats on lovely installation. I would drain system, remove drain-cock, insert a "T" connector, run new pipe from top of T connector, replace drain-cock in lower section. Don’t forget to put a tap in new line for winter turn off. Remember to drain new pipe out in winter.
