Designs for shelves I can build from scratch out of wood I already have?

I have recently gotten hold of some good pieces of timber that are ideal for use as shelves, they are 1"(h) X 14"(d) X 36"(w).
I would like to make some storage shelves to go in my utility room. The unit would have to be free-standing and would ideally have 5 or 6 shelves with the highest shelf at about 6′-6.5′ tall.
Does anyone know of a website that would have basic designs for this kind of furniture?
It seems a shame to have to buy shelving when i have perfectly good wood here at home already. I would need to buy the upright struts and fixings.
Thanks for your time :-)

  1. You could look at using these as floating shelves. This where the shelf unit appears to be fixed direct to the wall with no support which is very fashionable.

if you have solid walls then you need a resin kit and some studding which is a threaded steel rod. drill holes in the plank edge with a spade bit at least 6" in. Drill the wall and cut suitable lengths of rod. Fix this in the wall with the resin, When dry slide the shelf unit on. Use three fixing points if they are to take loads of weight.

If you want to build a unit you would really need longer lengths for the end pieces to build a ladder type frame.

Have a think about floating shelves.
